How to Play Ana-games

Overview
Ana-game puzzles involve anagrams, which are letters that must be rearranged to form a real English word including proper nouns. Sometimes you’re given a regular word to start with, sometimes a non-sensical jumble. What makes an ana-game different from a typical anagram is that you write the answer both vertically and horizontally into a grid of letters intersecting with other answers.

How to Begin
Rearrange the jumbled letters in the numbered clues to make a new word (or a different word) using the same letters. Proper nouns (first and last names) are allowed in both clues and answers. To begin the game, click on any square you wish. Then enter the new word in the grid, starting in its numbered squares, so that it reads the same across and down. If you’re stumped on a word, fill in words that you can. The intersecting letters will fill in part of the solution to the word that stumped you.

Beware of Experimenting with Random Combinations
Mistakes can be costly because elapsed time is key to your score, If you enter two wrong letters in any one square, that square will “lock” until a correct letter is placed in another square in the grid. (You can disable this 2-tries lockout by checking the box located above the puzzle.)

Scoring
A timing clock starts automatically when you enter your first letter into the game-grid. It runs until you have entered a letter into each of the spaces in the game-grid. Your score will show the ratio of total correct responses to total possible responses. It will also show your total elapsed time.

Chose your own difficulty levels
Each Ana-game is given a Brain-Gain Level of 1 (hardest), 2 (medium), or 3 (easiest). Click on one of these links to try games at the level you like. To make any game more difficult, try not to look at the “Help”; links. But if you’re having difficulty getting started, Help #1; contains clues to the correct words and Help # 2 gives a correct answer to one of the clues.
